If a recent report by a Chinese news agency, as well as the Ministry of Information Industry were to be believed, then everybody who purchased a mobile phone lately or those who plan on acquiring one should take time to consider thanking China for their units.

It is said to be about 500 million of the world’s mobile phones were or will be produced in China this year. That is about forty percent, sports fans. The figure represents a 41 percent increase in handset production over 2006. The report also says that 80 percent, or 400 million of those devices, were or will be exported. There are currently 38 companies in China making mobile handsets, according to the report.

Chinese handset makers saw a drop of two percentage points in domestic market penetration, due to increased competition, namely from Nokia. Chinese mobile phone manufacturers shipped less than 2/3 as many devices to Chinese retail outlets than the company from Finland.

The company recently said that the global mobile phone market will increase by about ten percent.
