Study: Talking While Driving Slows Down Traffic

Not only do constant cell phone usage create traffic in the telecom world, it also delays traffic in the streets. Well, not exactly shocking news to most of us. It does not really take a genius to figure that one out, seriously. Still, a lot of people talk while driving so this study is as relevant as they come.

The latest study from the University of Utah found that motorists using hands-free mobile phones drove slower, at inconsistent speeds and were less likely to pass slow-moving cars. The researchers, who also estimate 10 percent of drivers are on their cellphones, said drivers on cellphones took up to 30 percent longer to react and longer to regain speed once they did slow down.

According to background information in the study, more than 240 million people now use wireless services in the United States, and an estimated 73 percent of them admit to using their phones while driving. Now, the study may be a promotion to buy hands-free but it is still alarming since every person is as crazy about the traffic situation as everybody else.
