Research in Motion used to be at the forefront of mobile innovation. Remember, their BlackBerry was the wave of the future in the mobile phone market. They were the toast of the mobile world, especially those who wanted a phone to suit their corporate looks.

Now, they are believed by many to be engaging iPhone to a battle. They are said to be working on a BlackBerry set to rival Apple Corp.’s highly touted phone with a touchscreen device of their own. The BlackBerry 9000 series will be aimed at the consumer market, where the BlackBerry Pearl has enjoyed plenty of success since its launch last year marked a change of direction for RIM.

While no official announcements have been made, the 9000 series is said to set to appear in the first quarter of next year.
