Nokia Claims 40 Percent

Nokia estimates 1.14 billion phones were sold in 2007. More importantly for the Finnish company, however, is their claim that a huge chunk of that figure belongs to Nokia. According to them, 40 percent of those phones bore the Nokia brand. Also, they have reported a 44 percent rise in net profit for the fourth quarter, on sales that increased 34 percent.

New phones and multimedia devices that began shipping in volume during the quarter accounted for about 30 percent of profits and revenue. This could be attributed to the huge following of the company all over the world. In Asia, 40 percent was also the figure presented by Nokia. However, it should be noted that the key North American market was not one of the company’s success stories.

The region is one of Nokia’s smallest geographic market. Still, Nokia is planning ahead as it is counting on its acquisition of digital mapping data provider Navteq, and its move into the Internet services business.
