In what is shaping up to be a battle for the ages, there is no clear bad guys. Maybe anti-heroes? See, on one side is the company who simply built a new mobile phone. They made it exclusive to a single telecommunications network. On the other side is a group of mobile vigilantes, set on bending the rules. They hacked their way into the system and now are being engaged into a war.
The iPhone was cracked last month. Various successful attempts have followed. Apple Corp. is not taking this sitting down. So does AT&T. Obviously, they are now finding ways through updates and information dissemination to curb the hackers. Meanwhile, the various groups that have hacked the iPhone are also trying to convince everyone that the numerous reports of hack being more damaging than it should be are false.
No matter what happens next, one thing is definitely sure: this is an epic battle initiated by exclusivity rights.
