Nokia Siemens recently announced that they are going green. No, they are not pertaining to their phones being in a green scheme. Nor do they plan to change their logo. Instead, they were announcing a first in the industry, a welcome news to be blunt. Nokia Siemens announced an energy-efficient mobile network equipment package. They further described it as only the beginning of more in the line of improving the energy consumption of its network gear.

It is said to include a software that can reduce the energy used by base stations by setting some components to enter a power-saving mode at night, a feature that is capable of changing the minimum temperature requirement for a base station and network-planning tools that can allow operators to use fewer base stations. This is also said to be a step to curtail high costs in energy usage.

This is certainly great as it may signal the mobile manufacturers to become more environmentally conscious.
